Machine Senses
The source describes a group of artifacts that gave familiar sensing functions recognizable bodily forms. Examples included a smoke detector shaped like a nose, an ear-shaped microphone, and eye stickers for cameras.
Making machine perception visible
Changing a sensor’s outward form can make its function easier to notice and can also alter how being sensed feels. The examples are historical art and design proposals, rather than instructions to alter a safety device.
