The Deck of Many Things is a Deck in the game Dungeons & Dragons. It can be found by drawing it from a box or pouch and contains thirteen cards to twenty-two cards that are made of ivory or vellum with 5th Edition Compendium. This Deck has two faces, one good for the caster and one bad for the opponent. The Deck was first created by Gary Gygax before he left TSR Hobbies in 1985 who then sold it to Brian Blume and Kevin Bartlett who ran Gen Con Game Company at that time.
Playing with the Cards
Declare the number of cards you are wishing to draw. The Deck will determine the number of cards to be drawn. Keep drawing until you have as many or less than your declared number.
Create a deck from these randomly drawn cards and play with it. You can use altered deck to stimulate interest and creativity.
The excessive drawn cards from the deck will have no effects.
If you draw the Deck card no more than 1 hour after the previous draw, then the Deck is destroyed and cannot be used to play with the remaining number of cards fly from the deck on their own and take Effect all at once.
The Deck of Many Things is a legendary artifact, most commonly known as The Deck. Deck of Cards
Balance: If you are true neutral or unaligned, this card has no Effect on you else it turns good into evil and vice versa.
Comet: You gain Experience Points enough to gain one level if you single handedly defeat the hostile monsters.
Donjon: You are in a state of suspended animation in an extradimensional Sphere where nobody can trace you but only a wish spell can reveal the Location of your prison.
Euryale: The card’s medusa-like visage Curses you. You can be only freed by god or the magic of The Fates card.
The Fates: You can use the card immediately or before you die. It permits you to avoid or erase one event as if it never happened.
Flames: A powerful devil becomes your enemy that wishes to kill you. This enmity lasts until either you or the devil dies.
Fool: You can discard this card else you lose 10000 XP and it counts at the 2 drawn cards. You can draw a new card to keep you on the same level.
Gem: You get gems or jewelry worth 1000 to 2000 gp.
Idiot: This cards reduce your intelligence permanently or you can draw a new card counting for 2 declaration.
Jester: You gain 10,000 XP, or you can draw two additional cards beyond your declared draws.
Key: You get a weapon.
Knight: You can control a fighter which is loyal to you belonging to the same race as you.
Moon: You are granted the ability to cast the wish spell 13 times.
Rogue: You develop a hostile against you and the identity is hidden to you. It is chosen by the DM and only wish spell or Divine Intervention can stop the hostility against you.
Ruin: You are left with nothing else than your magic items. Everything belonging to you is taken away.
Skull: You summon an avatar of death-a ghostly Humanoid Skeleton clad in a tattered black robe and carrying a spectral scythe. It attacks you and you have to fight it alone until it drops to 0 Hit Points or you die.
Star: Increase one of your Ability Scores by 2.
Sun: You gain 50,000 XP, and a wondrous item.
Talons: You lose all your magic items and artifacts as they disintegrate. They aren’t destroyed but vanish.
Throne: You can claim a keep in the world, currently in the hands of Monsters, which you must clear out before you can claim. You add bonus to your proficiency in the Persuasion skill.
Vizier: At any time you choose within one year of drawing this card, you can ask a question in meditation and mentally receive a truthful answer to that question.
The Void: This black card Spells Disaster. It traps your soul from your body. You can’t draw new cards and wish spell reveals the Location of the object that holds it.
